The Memoir Writing unit was a collection of mini lessons and a writing activity that expanded my knowledge on writing about experiences. My memoir is about a past friendship that I really struggled with. I learned about the life lessons I could teach as well as the writing lessons. Comma splices and Strong verbs were not something I thought I needed to change in my writing until I learned the mini lessons. The memoir gave me personal closure on the event that I never got. We wrote three drafts. The first draft was revised by peers. The second draft was closely edited by a partner. I learned about myself and how I cope with a relationship loss as well as how to write in 1st person and in past tense about my experiences which is not something I do often.
I learned that I could add my personality and little quirks that I say in my daily life into my writing to make it sound like I was reading it rather than monotonously telling a story.
